Meghan reveals Harry was 30 minutes late for first date as she confirms how they met
Meghan Markle has revealed that Prince Harry was half an hour late to their first date, in their new Netflix documentary
Speaking during their new six-part docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the duchess explained that their first date was drinks at 76 Dean Street in Soho, London, but that she was left waiting for her prince.
“You were late,” Meghan said to Prince Harry during the first episode. “And I couldn’t understand why he would be late. But he kept texting. He was like, ‘I’m in traffic. I’m so sorry.’”
Harry replied that he was “panicking”, “freaking out” and “sweating”.

“Then, I didn’t know him. So I was like, ‘Oh, is this what he does? Got it,’” explained Meghan. “Like this... I’m not doing.”
“Like you’re one of those guys who have so much of an ego that you’re not gonna… that any girl would sit waiting for a half hour for you. I was just not interested in that,” she added.
But when Harry walked in, and Meghan could see how red-faced he was from trying to get to the date, she realised he wasn’t like that at all.
“You were genuinely so embarrassed and late,” she continued. “He was just so fun. Just so refreshingly fun, and that was the thing, we were... childlike together.”
They chatted for just an hour before Meghan went to a dinner with friends, but she reveals in the documentary that she decided to call him later that night to say she was only in London for one more day if he wanted to have dinner the next evening.
“I’m sure he thought I was so forward and American,” she laughed.
They met at the same restaurant the next night and Harry joked that even though Meghan was five minutes late, he said: “You can be as late as you want. I ain’t moving. I want to see you again.”
Both revealed in the first episode of the docuseries that they thought they had something "special" from the off, each texting friends after the dinner. Meghan said she was “crazy” about Harry, while Harry said that he thought Meghan was “the one”.
After meeting each other just twice, and speaking for a month afterwards, Harry then invited Meghan to join him in Botswana where he was working on a conservation project.
Earlier in the episode, the Sussexes revealed that they actually met one another through Instagram.
Harry explained that he had been scrolling through his feed when a friend of his had posted a video of Meghan with a Snapchat dog filter on her.
“That was the first thing [I saw],” Harry said, “and I was like ‘who is that?’”
Meghan said her friend then sent her an email saying that someone she knew was interested in her and asked whether she would like to meet him.

“I said, ‘Who is it’? And she said ‘It’s Prince Haz’ and I said, ‘Who’s that?’” Meghan laughed.
Before agreeing to the date, Meghan asked if she could see Harry’s Instagram feed.
“When people say, ‘Did you Google him?’ No, but I... that’s [Instagram’s] the homework, let me see what they’re about on their feed,” she explained.
“I went through and it was just like beautiful photography and all these environmental shots and this time he was spending in Africa.”
Harry said that they then got each other’s numbers and were in touch “constantly” before he asked her on their first date.
Elsewhere in the documentary, Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland spoke out for the first time, saying she was ready for her “voice to be heard”.
