These Flowers at Costco Are Some of the Most Voluptuous I’ve Ever Seen
If you’re looking to invest in your garden this spring and cultivate your flowers to be enjoyed for a long time, you need to immediately check out Costco’s selection of Heirloom Roses (and the brand’s XL planters). These roses are super hardy because they’re own-root grown, meaning that each plant is sprouted from a cutting of the “mother” plant, so they’re also more resistant to disease, can withstand cold temperatures, and are gorgeous.
“Let’s unbox these Heirloom roses I just ordered from Costco.com,” Angela Ackerman from Costco Guide said in a recent video. “Heirloom Roses is a family-owned nursery, and they only sell own-root roses. There’s a variety of colors available, and they’re all chosen for their ease of growth, long-lasting performance, and standout beauty in the garden.”
What Are Own-Root Roses?
Heirloom Roses sells own-root rose plants grown from clippings of mature rose bushes. These types of roses can withstand frost and will grow fuller over time. In addition, the bush will be healthier overall.
“They’re shipped as 18-month-old plants with an extensive root network, so they’re ready to plant and flourish for years to come,” Angela continued. “They’re only available for a limited time, so order them today on Costco.com.”
Many other types of rose bushes are grafted or budded, meaning growers take a rootstock and graft another variety of rose on top. These roses may grow faster than others but are much more susceptible to frost damage, diseases, and stunted growth. The rootstock plant may overtake the variety grafted on top completely, and you’ll end up with another variety of rose you never wanted.
Each live plant is just under $50 on Costco’s website, which is an investment, but the payoff will be so sweet, and the bush will last a lifetime with proper care. Plus, several colors are available, so you can choose a variety of shades. Keep in mind that they’re only available to Costco shoppers until May 11, 2025.
