Escape To The Country couple make heartbreaking admission as they find 'dream home'

A couple on Escape To The Country made a heartbreaking admission at the start of Monday's show.

During the latest instalment, viewers were introduced to couple Victoria and Barry from Essex who were hoping to find a new home in Scotland's Perth and Kinross with a big garden, good transport links and a rugby club within half an hour.

The couple, who have three children and a dog, were hoping to find somewhere quieter and not on a busy road with a budget of £420,000.

Victoria also made a heartbreaking admission at the start of the episode as she said: "We want somewhere to be proud of when we invite people over and at the moment we just don't feel like we can do that."

Presenter Steve Brown was tasked with finding the couple a collection of properties to view in Scotland's Perth and Kinross and it was the final 'mystery house' that stole the family's heart.

The mystery house based in Monikie, Angus, was built in 1896 as the gate house to the country park. The property was on the market for £349,000 and boasted four double bedrooms, a spacious garden and large reception rooms.

The couple were impressed by the period details as well as the massive rooms on offer and stunning picturesque scenery. A delighted Victoria, who was blown away by the property, said: "It's definitely somewhere that we would feel proud for people to come to us."

At the end of the show, it was revealed that Victoria and Barry had accepted a sale on their home back in Essex and had put an offer on the mystery house, which had been accepted.

Presenter Steve said: "Victoria and Barry took the children back to see the house the very next day. I'm happy to report, they've had their offer accepted. I know they're going to love living there and we wish them every success for their new lives in Scotland."

It comes as Escape to the Country host Sonail Shah stopped a property search and joked "let's go back" after buyers were left blown away at an unexpected detail on last week's episode.

Escape To The Country continues on weekdays at 3pm on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
