Escape to the Country buyer ‘lost for words’ as price tag of dream home revealed

Escape to the Country buyers were left speechless as they found their dream home and it within their desired budget.

During Tuesday’s (November 5) episode of the BBC hit show, Jules was on a mission to help a newly engaged couple make a big move from their Victorian end-of-terrace house in the Cheshire village and start their new life in the countryside.

Business consultant Emma and fiancé Robin, who is a property renovator, had set their sights on buying their first home together in rural Northumberland.

Since Emma’s daughter and Robin’s two sons have left home they revealed that they no longer needed to be near the city.

The duo had a budget of £800k for a detached family home that had a minimum of three bedrooms and two acres of land. They also wanted the property to be in a secluded setting with outbuildings that have workshop and holiday let potential.

Speaking about why they wanted to make the big move, Emma started off by saying: “It’s got the sort of properties we want and the people are warm and friendly and we just really like it here.” Robin added: “We’ll have more seclusion, space and opportunity to earn an income, hopefully.”

Jules set up a number of property viewings and made sure they had everything the pair were looking for but it was one home that stood out.

The courtyard barn conversion was located in the village of Berrington. The historic farmstead was derelict when it was first purchased 45 years ago but after a 10-year renovation it has since been converted into a family home that offers more than 6,000 square feet of living space.

It had a generous sized kitchen-diner, four receptions, four bedrooms and holiday let development potential as well as a one bed annexe.

Emma and Robin fell in love with the home minutes into walking inside and they couldn't hide their excitement. After walking through the house Jules was quick to quiz the couple on how much they thought the property was on the market for.

Emma guessed: “I think it’s probably in excess of £800,000.” Robin jumped in and added: “Well I’m going to remain optimistic and say £750,000.”

Jules then left the pair shocked as he revealed that the house was within their budget as it was on the market for £800,000.

Emma was in disbelief as she admitted: “I’m actually lost for words and anyone that knows me will be saying that’s very rare. My mind is just turning over.” Robin added: “Amazing space and I’m honestly quite taken with this house.

In the end, the couple admitted that they had fallen in love with the property however they decided not to put an offer in but insisted that they would be heading back to view the house again.
