The Duchess of Edinburgh is moved to tears on her historic royal visit
The Duchess of Edinburgh has been the first member of the Royal Family to visit Chad in Africa, speaking to Sudanese refugees who have fled there.
During her historic royal visit, the Duchess was brought to tears listening to some of the heartbreaking accounts of women and young girls who have experienced conflict related sexual violence, according to the Royal Family's official social media.
As a global champion of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and a supporter of the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, the Duchess attended the country to help draw attention to the escalating humanitarian crisis.
Posting the visit on the official Royal Family's instagram, Sophie was captured listening to the refugees stories and smiling with some of them.
Spending three days in the country, including a day at the border in Sudan, the Duchess visited the town of Adré while there.
During her time in Adré, the Duchess visited refugee registration points with different humanitarian workers, as well as met survivors of sexual violence at the Adré District Hospital.
When at the hospital, the Duchess hugged five survivors of conflict-related sexual violence after hearing the suffering they've been through and teared up when speaking to the media after the private meeting.
The Duchess of Edinburgh also spoke with grassroots women's rights organisations and met with teenagers in safe learning spaces supported by Plan International while visiting too.
The Duchess was captured in a flowy blue denim-like skirt and a pretty floral blouse for the important royal occasion.
