  • Dr. John White has been practicing medicine for decades, delivering thousands of babies in the Daytona Beach, Fla., area in his time as an OB/GYN

  • Before retiring in October, he helped one family come full circle, delivering the baby of someone he had helped deliver in the 1990s

  • Mom Ashley Thomas is grateful to the doctor for helping her through a complicated pregnancy and saving both her life and that of her little girl

A woman is going viral on TikTok after revealing that the doctor who delivered her in 1995 was the same doctor to deliver her own baby in 2024.

"When the same doctor who delivered you 29 years ago, delivers your own baby," Ashley Thomas wrote on TikTok, in a carousel post featuring several images.

The first image shows Thomas when she was a baby and delivered by Dr. John White in 1995. The second shows a 29-year-old Thomas alongside Dr. White and her own baby, whom he delivered on July 7, 2024.

"We love Dr. White!" Thomas captioned the post on TikTok.

Speaking to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview, Thomas explains that she grew up in Daytona Beach, Fla., but left for a different city before getting married and moving back home.

When she got pregnant, she knew exactly who she wanted as her OB/GYN.

"He was obviously my mom's doctor," Thomas, 29, says, "but was known to be one of the best in our area."

As Thomas explains, White has been practicing for more than 41 years and "has delivered over 10,000 babies over the course of his career, including myself, my two siblings, my husband and his siblings."

"He pretty much delivered all of Daytona Beach," she jokes. "When people hear his name, they know exactly who he is because he truly is the best and cares deeply for his patients and babies."

Thomas says that White's professionalism was life-changing for both her, and her own baby girl.

"My baby was born seven weeks early via emergency C-section due to preeclampsia," she says. "So not only did the doctor who delivered me, deliver my baby, but he pretty much saved both of our lives."

She adds: "My preeclampsia was severe enough to where I became so sick, at only 33 weeks. So when he made the call to deliver her early, his knowledge calmed my fears and I knew I was in the best hands. I thanked him for his wisdom as well as his urgency to get her out, safe and sound."

Thomas adds that she "truly felt safe with" White as her doctor.

"During one of my first pregnancy appointments, my mom had texted me a photo of Dr. White and me when I was a newborn," she says. "I showed him that picture and he said, 'We must get one together with YOUR baby girl' and we did exactly that — 29 years later."

This month, White is retiring from medicine, with Thomas noting, "as sad I am to see that chapter close, I couldn’t think of a more deserving doctor to enjoy retirement. His hard work has paid off."
