How to chill a warm beer in just 10 minutes
We’ve all put a warm beer in the fridge only to open it a few minutes later a little too optimistically.
It seems there’s no shortcut to cooling down a can of lager, and we simply have to wait it out.
Or not – as a clever video has emerged revealing how to chill a beer in just ten minutes.
Two different hacks for cooling down beer were tested by YouTube page Lifehacker, one using paper towels and the other using salt.
The first was to place a wet paper towel around the beer can before popping it in the freezer.
And the second involved submerging beers in a metal bucket full of ice and water to the top – then covering the whole lot in salt.
While the first was proven to be pretty ineffective – the beer was still at 22°C when it was taken back out after 10 minutes – the second worked like a charm, coming out at just above 1°C.
Of course, placing beer in ice will help it to cool down, but salt is the magic ingredient here as adding salt lowers the freezing point of water to around -2°C.
While the salt will melt the ice, the water leftover will be cooler than the ice or water, thus cooling the beer down super quickly.
Not bad. Now, where can we buy that much salt?
