Cat Adorably Holds Her Own Tail When She Curls up To Go To Sleep
TikTok is amazing for finding pets doing an array of all sorts of unusual activities. From rabbits jumping on trampolines to cats playing the piano to dogs painting pictures -- it's all there. But sometimes, it's the really subtle, quiet animals displaying sweet little quirky traits all their own that are the most endearing. Such is the case with the cat in this sweet video.
When this girl curls up to sleep she, for some odd reason, finds comfort in holding her own tail. That's it. That's all. But it's so simple and almost thoughtful... you can't help being drawn in. It's apparently a routine she'd invented to soothe herself, and she did it all on her own, with something that will always be with her. She's a pretty smart girl.
Viewers loved this girl's creativity. "Her emotional support tail." replied one. Another wrote, "It’s the feline version of sucking her thumb maybe?"
And other commenters just couldn't get over the adorableness. "Omg, that’s so cute. I’m gonna cry." "I’m obsessed with her." "Full body chills you guys."
Why Repetitive Comfort Behaviors Help Cats Relax
Cats are big on routine. Anyone who's a cat parent can tell you that. Feeding times, biscuit-making times, nap times-these are all things that are typically nonnegotiable. Repetitive comfort behaviors like kneading, sucking, or even holding a tail can help signal their nervous system that it's safe to relax. That, in turn, can help their immune system to operate properly, keep their heart rate down, stomach settled and overall health stronger.
In times, these behaviors become habits because they work. The cat feels calmer and more secure, and since they're equipped with "episodic memory," they're able to piece it all together, and file it away in their brain as part of a relaxation process. Nap time? I'll hold my tail, that always makes me feel better. Or, I'll make some biscuits. It then becomes automatic and less about thinking and more about habit.

For this girl, the habit stuck. And it's adorable because it isn't staged or elaborate. Just a cat doing what she needs to do to feel calm and settled. Sometimes, the smallest routines can be the most comforting of all.
