Carol Vorderman has explained how dating five men at once works.
Last October, 62-year-old Vorderman revealed on ITV’s This Morning that she has a number of “special friends” and that she had never felt “freer”.
Appearing on This Morning again today with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, Vorderman said the reaction to her confession “was almost universally positive” and that many women wrote into her saying it was a “liberation”

“It’s not brave, it's just honest,” Vorderman explained. “One daughter emailed in and said her mum started crying when she watched it. When I asked her [mum] why she said, ‘Well I have been divorced for so many years, I have been made to feel as if I have failed. And people around me, friends and family, say, 'Oh haven’t you found anyone else to love you?'”
When quizzed by Schofield and Willoughby about how her special friendships came about, Vorderman, who has been divorced twice, said they happened “naturally”.
“I don’t want to settle with anybody,” she added. “If my life was a cake, it’s got fantastic friends, I love my job, I have people who love me – the male-female relationships are sort of the icing on the cake, rather than the fundamental basis of it.

“Everyone’s single – that’s a critical part of it,” she continued, adding that while her lovers are not one-night stands, she supports people who choose to do so.

When Schofield asked whether the men knew of each other, Vorderman laughed saying “they do now”, but added: “They have their lives as well. I never ask about that. It’s a freedom.”
Vorderman explained that she doesn’t know whether or not her dates have other “special friends”. “I’m sure they do,” she said. “But I don’t talk to them about it. We don’t need to know really.”
The TV personality decided to talk about her friends as “there are an awful lot of people out there who live a life like I do, or don’t want one single partner who are shamed by society into not talking about it.
“It’s happy,” she continued. People say, ‘Well, are you looking for love?’ But love can be a very unhappy place to be. Isn’t the goal just to be happy?”

Vorderman has seen a positive reaction to her comments on social media, with one user @Homebythesea12 tweeting: “Brilliant segment by Carol. I wish she would start a relationship podcast. She is one wise woman.”
Another user, @JoanneMcF780307 added: “I’ve just watched your interview about your ‘Special Friends’… good on you. I find it refreshing. I’ve been separated [for] five years and thought I would have met the man of my dreams by now. Well I’m too happy on my own and enjoying the things I want to do.”
