Considering the high stakes drama of series three of Bridgerton, the next season of Netflix's smash hit series has some very big shoes to fill.

(Please note, dearest gentle reader, spoilers for series three do here follow...)

Last series, we finally got to see Penelope Featherington become one of the Bridgerton clan, following her nuptials to beau, Colin Bridgerton. As a friendship-turned-relationship we've been invested in from the beginning, the young lovers finally getting together ties up a long-running narrative thread of the Bridgerton story, so where to look next?

Here's everything we know about Bridgerton series 4....

What will happen in Bridgerton series 4?

With four Bridgerton siblings now married - Daphne, Anthony, Colin and Francesca - there are still four left to be welcomed into the marriage mart. And Netflix has now announced that the fourth season will focus on the love story of... Benedict Bridgerton.

Played by Luke Thompson, Netflix made the announcement with a teasing video, which gave away very little on what escapades Benedict might get up to next season.

"Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down - until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother's masquerade ball," reads the logline from Netflix.

The Lady in Silver in question is Sophie Baek, and it's been announced that Yerin Ha has been cast to play her in the upcoming series.

“What’s striking about Season 4 is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale — the romance of it — and the actual reality of the world,” Luke told Tudum. “And both are true. You have to hold both of them — the romance and the reality — in your hand. In its best version, ‘true love’ happens in the middle of that.”

As the 'bohemian second son', we've had more than a peek into Benedict's romantic capers thus far, but it will certainly be interesting to dig below the emotional surface of the eternally chirpy Benedict.

"Benedict has always been a little lost — or free depending on the way you want to look at it," said Luke. "But now he's trying to find something a bit more solid in himself."

Yerin told Tudum: "“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome. Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.”

When can I watch Bridgerton series 4?

No official release date has been announced just yet, but the last two series have been released in spring time, so keep your eyes peeled in spring 2025.

For now, you can catch up on (or re-watch) the first three seasons of Bridgerton on Netflix, before season four drops.

Meanwhile, did you see the Bridgerton themed garden at this year's Chelsea Flower Show? Our team went behind the scenes with the garden's designer to get the dirt (sorry) on how it came together.

And if you can't fathom how you'll be able to wait for the next instalment in the series, I suggest making a day trip to some of the Bridgerton filming locations - including the Bridgertons' Mayfair pile.
