Amy Dowden makes heartbreaking new statement after Strictly exit - 'I'd be lying if I said I was ok'
Amy Dowden has made an emotional statement following her exit from Strictly Come Dancing, revealing that she is “determined to keep pushing”. Having been treated for stage 3 breast cancer last year, Amy was unable to take part in the show while she recovered from chemotherapy
This year Amy, 34, made a triumphant return to the BBC ballroom alongside JLS singer JB Gill. Sadly, it was announced last week that the pro dancer would be withdrawing from the competition after sustaining a foot injury. Since pulling out of the 20th anniversary series, Amy has focused on her recovery and previously revealed that doctors were hopeful that she could be dancing by December.
And now, Amy has given fans a peek inside her rest and recovery as she looks ahead. In a series of Instagram stories, the Strictly pro could be seen trying out a series of exercises in a gym as she poured all her attention into her healing process.

The TV personality also shared a video of herself from last year which showed her finishing her final round of chemotherapy. Alongside the sweet clip, Amy took time to reflect on her journey. “One year on and I’m determined to keep pushing this next year!,” she said. “Thank to all who messaged this past week it truly means everything! I’d be lying if I said I’m ok, but I know I will be and I’m lucky to have so many loved ones around me! 2025 sounds like an even better year year ay.”
In one clip she beamed for the camera as she worked out on an exercise bike. “Thank you @physios2u And @xfmerryhill for your amazing space allowing us to help and lush with my recovery,” she wrote alongside.
In another, Amy lifted a kettlebell as she opened up about her dreams moving forward. “Some of todays exercises! I’m determined! Don’t get bitter get better! Those dreams certainly aren’t fading away and I’ll always continue to work hard to be the best version of myself,” she captioned the clip.
The emotional post comes after Amy appeared on the Lorraine sofa where she confessed she felt like she'd let her dance partner, JB, down because of her need to withdraw from this year’s Strictly. “I’m going to do my best not to cry, and I know lots of people would say it’s an entertainment show. We were prepared that every week could be the dance off, but I’m gutted it’s ended this way. I feel like I’ve left JB down,” she admitted as she held back the tears.
