This is how you actually pronounce Eugenie's name
Words by Eliza Velk.
There is a lot of interest in Princess Eugenie at the moment, due to her upcoming Windsor Castle wedding to Jack Brooksbank on 12 October.
And as the Queen’s granddaughter, you would think we would all be familiar with how to pronounce her name by now.
But that’s not the case.
Apparently, those of us who say “You-Janie” or “You-Jee-nie,” (which is practically everyone) have been saying the 28-year-old’s name wrong all this time.
According to her mother, Sarah Ferguson, it’s actually pronounced “YOO-junnee.”
In order to help people get it right, Fergie even came up with a way to easily remember it.
“Whenever we used to meet foreign people who were struggling with it, my mum and I would help them by saying, ‘It’s like Use Your Knees,’” she explains to The Sun.
“But whatever. I am now used to every pronunciation.”
Eugenie – who’s full name is Eugenie Victoria Helena of York – was named after Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, with her middle name Helena also coming from Princess Helena, Queen Victoria’s daughter.
However, there has been speculation that the princess might change her title (currently Princess Eugenie of York) following her wedding ceremony at Windsor Castle on October 12.
According to Hello!, her new title will become a combination of her royal status and husband’s name meaning she will become, HRH Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank.
This comes after it was confirmed her wine merchant fiancé Jack would remain a commoner rather than gain the title of Earl of Northallerton, yet this doesn’t seem to phase Eugenie.
“Eugenie couldn’t care less about titles and is perfectly happy to be Mrs Brooksbank,” a source has told The Express.
