The WAG queen-across-the-water Coleen Rooney is tearing up the jungle in this year’s I’m a Celebrity… more than justifying her record breaking £1.5 million fee. ITV bosses kept her signing a secret until the last possible minute, referring to her only as 'Marple' in meetings. We predict that Coleen is going to be the stand-out star of the series - here's seven reasons we're loving her so far.

  1. She sleuths, she scores

Coleen was codenamed 'Marple' because she stunned the nation in 2019 with her Wagatha Christie social media detective skills. Her cunning use of Instagram blocking and fake story leaking lead to her ID’ing Rebekah Vardy as the source of leaks to the tabloids about her private life. It was made into a Disney + drama last year, but we can’t wait to see the real Rooney’s smarts on show if she plays to win.

And so far, she’s won the critics at least – with the Telegraph touting her as the only reason to watch.

2. Out of the gate…

Arriving on a gorgeous Aussie beach in sweltering heat, her first instinct? “I wish I’d come in my bikini.” Proper Brit on the beach spirit.

3. Unintentionally funny

Arriving in camp and discovering she’d be sharing a bunkbed with former featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, Coleen innocently asked, “do you want to go top or bottom?” to the amusement of the camp. We hope there’s more like this to come.

4. But in on the joke

When Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough giddily picked Madam Rooney for the first challenge exclaiming, “Wagatha Christie you’re coming with me!”, she didn’t bat an eyelid.

5. Look out for… mentions of Wayne

Just before going in, she revealed her contentment with the couple’s long-distance relationship. He manages Plymouth Argyle and she lives in their Cheshire family home with their four kids. They spend the most time together during international breaks – when the league takes second place to international games. Although, as she pointed out, there’s an international break right now and she’s out in the foliage earning £1.5 million. Wayne’s only pocketing £500,000 at Plymouth. Is it the bikini or the trousers she’s wearing?

6. Scathing revelations

Chatting to ex-Strictly dancer Obi Mabuse and Loose Women’s Jane Moore about how she and Wayne got together, Col confirmed it was “love at first sight”. For Wayne. They met at school when they were 12, but she waited until after her GCSEs before going on a date. “I was pretty good at school,” she reasoned. Indeed, she earned an A* in Performing Arts. Smart and a performer.

7. No fear

Having navigated more than her fair share of scandals, steering a leaking boat with McCullough as her challenge left her unfazed. She plugged the hole with his shirt and her scarf then scooped out the water with a tin mug. She’s no Crocodile Dundiva.
