The $54 1800s-Inspired Rug I'm Buying Before It Sells Out (So Beautiful!)
It would be inaccurate to say that antique or vintage-inspired housewares are just now becoming popular, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t noticed a recent uptick in general interest from our readers (and staffers). It makes sense when you think about it; incorporating vintage furniture and decor is one of the easiest ways to make your home look cozy, and now that it’s fall who wouldn’t want their space to feel extra cozy?
The only downside to the aesthetic is that searching for authentic vintage pieces can be very time-consuming — especially if you’re hunting for items from a very specific time period. Finding what you’ve been looking for is immensely rewarding, but it also doesn’t hurt to snag a replica or two when you can. I recently came across a rug reminiscent of styles popular in the 18th century, and it’s currently on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond for only $54. The SAFAVIEH handmade rag rug is naturally selling fast at such a low price, so be sure to grab your desired color while it’s still in stock.

What Is the SAFAVIEH Handmade Rag Rug?
First off, what is a rag rug? This particular style of rug originated in Scandinavia, specifically Sweden, before becoming popular in the United Kingdom in the 18th century and later in North America. Rag rugs were initially made of pieces of scrap cloth that were woven together, but eventually they were produced more for artistry rather than out of necessity. If you look at authentic examples of vintage rag rugs, you’ll notice their intricate patterns, which have been woven together using a variety of colors. What’s cool about the SAFAVIEH rag rug is that it, too, is handwoven, and it’s 100% cotton. It’s available in a whopping 21 sizes and five colors, although select size and color pairings are selling out fast.
Bed Bath & Beyond reviewers describe the rug as durable and low pile, although many recommend investing in a rug pad to help keep it still. (In any case, getting a rug pad never hurts.) Although the care instructions say you should vacuum the rug, a couple of reviewers noted that doing so is difficult because of its woven texture. Fortunately, the rug doesn’t have long fibers, so you could get away with spot-cleaning any blemishes and shaking out debris from week to week.

“Love the rug! It is well-made and lies flat. This was bought as a replacement for a rug I ordered elsewhere that ended up being so slippery that it was a hazard. This adds the perfect funky look I was going for in my family room.” —Donna

“Have several of these rugs. [They’re] colorful, washable, durable, [and have] a lot of nice colors. You can use these several different ways, like outdoor bench covers. Will always buy more of these.” —Edwin
