It's the season that calls to mind bold burgundies and midnight manicures, as opposed to the neutral tones that often dominate during our lighter and brighter seasons. But while nude nails are usually stowed away for the return of spring, this autumn they seem to be reemerging as the manicure du rigeur.
From Selena Gomez to Kylie Jenner, and even on the SS25 runways, nude and natural nails have been accentuated with anything-but-boring motifs, subtle nail art and chrome nail accents, with everything from milky hues with a glow-y your-nails-but-better sheen to espresso tones bringing a fresh lease of life to everyone's go-to mani.
'They've been reimagined this season,' agrees Sofia Richie's manicurist Georgia Rae. 'There are so many different ways of wearing a nude nail to make it fit your aesthetic; it's really the most versatile nail shade to wear,' she says.

'I personally love a brown or cream toned nude as we transition into autumn such as Essie ‘Fairy Tailor’ or Chanel ‘White Silk'. Bio Sculpture have also just released a new collection including a nude called ‘A Breath Of Fresh Air’ which is the perfect autumnal nude, it’s more opaque and suits most skin tones,' shares Rae.
When it comes to nail art, they make for the perfect neutral base too. 'Nude shades always provide the perfect base for any form of nail art; I think chrome will still be popular for a while to come and as we transition into autumn and I’m seeing french manicures with earthy shades take hold which I love too,' she adds.
When it comes to nail shapes, Rae recommends keeping things simple. 'I think you have to keep it as natural as possible. With shaping I always focus on making sure it suits the hands. I’m loving the ‘ballerina’ shape at the moment, as it's a hybrid between a soft square and an almond shape, slightly tapered in at the sides to elongate the fingers but softly squared off at the edge,' she says.
