Cocker Spaniels, Golden Retrievers and Border Terriers are among the most 'searched-for' dog breeds in the UK for 2024.

New research conducted by Open Study College analysed Google search terms for the top dog breeds in the UK from October 2023 to September 2024.

There are over 400 recognised breeds worldwide, but this new data sheds light on the ones people are most interested in.

At the top of the list is the Cocker Spaniel, with 49,930 average monthly searches. The study found that Londoners look up the breed the most (22,220), followed by Birmingham residents (2,900).

"The Cocker Spaniel is known for being gentle, affectionate and friendly, and is often referred to as the 'merry cocker' which is clearly demonstrated by its ever-wagging tail," Bill Lambert, head of health and welfare at the Kennel Club, previously told Country Living.

"Being both a wonderful family dog and a skilled working breed, they are a real all-rounder."

Other top dogs include Golden Retrievers (46,880), Rottweilers (46,420), Dachshunds (40,320), and German Shepherds (39,750), coming in second, third, fourth and fifth place respectively. All of these dogs are loved for their friendly personalities and ability to get along with children.

"German Shepherd dogs are versatile, intelligent and energetic dogs, known for their loyalty," said Bill. "They're capable of learning many commands, which is why they are make good service, military and assistance dogs."
