Teenage striker Chido Obi-Martin has added to the excitement surrounding his arrival at Manchester United by scoring a hat-trick in the first 14 minutes of his full debut for the club’s Under-18s team.

The 16-year-old, whose move from Arsenal was ratified by the Premier League last month, scored within 14 seconds of kick-off against Nottingham Forest.

He completed his hat-trick in the 14th minute on the pitch in front of the Jimmy Murphy Centre at United’s training ground in Carrington.

Obi-Martin has been the talk of academy football after going viral for scoring 10 goals in a match for Arsenal against Liverpool last year, with United moving for him in the summer when he was out of contract.

Born in Denmark, he has played for his birth country’s Under-17s team but has also represented England earlier in his development. In the summer he played for Denmark at the Under-17s Euros and was named in the team of the tournament after scoring two goals and reaching the semi-finals.

Last season, he scored 32 goals in 24 appearances for Arsenal and trained with Mikel Arteta’s first team.

“Time to focus and achieve all my dreams,” he wrote on his social media platforms when he signed for United, along with a picture of him as a child wearing a United replica shirt.

Erik ten Hag recently spoke about the club altering their approach in the market and targeting younger players instead of proven trophy-winners such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane from recent seasons.

“Those are the choices we have made in the last two seasons – and I understand the impression that many have for Manchester United because the history is so big,” Ten Hag said. “But those are the choices we have made – and also it has something to do with financials and other restrictions we have to deal with.”
