Town Women go top of the league with fantastic victory over Oxford United
Ipswich Town Women have taken top spot after beating Oxford United 4-2 in Felixstowe this afternoon, with goals from Shauna Guyatt and Maria Boswell and a brace from Lucy O'Brien.
The game started with a lot of intensity from the Yellows who pressed the Town defence, with both teams starting strong.
Oxford took the lead in the 16th minute as former Town striker Zoe Barratt met the end of a low cross into the area and finished beyond Negri in the Town net.
Town equalised in the 23rd minute as Maisy Barker ran down the left before cutting it back to Guyatt, in the middle who finished past the keeper.
Just a few minutes later, in the 26th minute, Oxford retook the lead as the ball was once again played across the Town area, and Leah Burridge finished.
Just a minute later, however, O'Brien scored a fantastic goal after dropping the shoulder to get past her marker and firing into the top corner bringing Town back level.
After a scintillating first half, with three goals in the space of four minutes, the teams went into the break at two goals apiece.
The second half was an even affair between the two sides, with Town having more of the ball and threatening more, but the Oxford defence remained strong.
In the 73rd minute, skipper Boswell scored for Town to put her side in the lead to stay after a great corner, straight from the training ground. Boswell was at the front post to wrap her leg around the ball and finish into the far corner.
In the 92nd minute Megan Wearing headed the ball away from an Oxford corner, with Ella Rutherford then feeding in O'Brien who ran half the length of the pitch before finishing to bag her second of the game.
This win takes Town to the top of the Southern Premier Division, with Hashtag United losing to Watford.
The Tractor Girls have two games in hand over their Essex counterparts, who they face in the FA Cup next Sunday.
