Ruben Amorim confirms imminent Manchester United decision
Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that a decision on his future will become “clear” after his side’s game against Estrela da Amadora on Friday.
The 39-year-old has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout following the Dutchman’s sacking on Monday.
Sporting have confirmed United’s interest in paying Amorim’s £8.3m release clause and will reportedly allow their highly-rated young coach to leave the club during the international break in November.
Talks are ongoing but the move is widely expected to go through as the Red Devils close in on a sixth full-time manager since the retirement of the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Speaking ahead of his Friday night fixture, Amorim revealed: “It's a negotiation between two clubs. It's never easy, even with the [release] clauses. They have to talk.
"We will have clarification after the game [on Friday], it will be clear. So it's one more day and after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made."
United have placed club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy in interim charge of the first-team, with the former Netherlands striker claiming a big 5-2 win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Van Nistelrooy is expected to remain in charge until Amorim arrives, meaning he is almost certain to oversee Sunday’s huge Premier League clash with Chelsea.
