Newcastle United forward set for January transfer move after agent outlines plans
MIGUEL ALMIRON looks increasingly likely to leave Newcastle United during the January transfer window, with the forward’s agent confirming he is open to offers at the turn of the year.
Almiron’s stock has fallen significantly this season, with the Paraguay international starting just one of Newcastle’s 11 Premier League matches.
The 30-year-old was an unused substitute in the wins over Arsenal and Nottingham Forest that preceded the international break, and as well as finding himself behind Jacob Murphy in the pecking order for the wide-attacking role on the right, he is also now in competition with Anthony Gordon, who has been switched to the right-hand side in the last few games.
To further limit his potential for more appearances in the second half of the season, Newcastle have also been extensively linked with the purchase of a new right-sided forward in January. The position is a key priority area for both sporting director Paul Mitchell and head coach Eddie Howe, with the Magpies having had a bid rejected for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga on deadline day in August.
Almiron was the subject of outside interest in the summer, but the window closed with the South American still on Newcastle’s books.
Nevertheless, a number of clubs remain keen to complete a deal in January. Almiron is known to have a number of suitors within the Saudi Arabian Pro League, and is also understood to be interesting at least two American sides in the MLS. Almiron spent three years in the US with Atlanta United prior to joining Newcastle in 2019.

Reports in the last week have linked him with River Plate and Boca Juniors in South America, and with Newcastle continually needing to balance the books in order to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations, the Magpies will be willing to listen to offers when the transfer window reopens.
Almiron’s representative, Daniel Campos, is aware of the situation, and has also suggested that a deal could be imminent.
Speaking to Paraguayan media outlet, TYC Sports, Campos said: “He (Almiron) has a valid contract. The link was renewed last year for three more (years, to 2027), and with the new owners of the club.
“Miguel does not despair about money issues or doing crazy things, but if there is an offer from a team, we will go through the appropriate channels.”
Almiron is currently on international duty with Paraguay, and played for the opening 89 minutes as his side pulled off a shock World Cup qualifying win over Argentina at the end of last week.
