Manchester United 'line up' Thomas Tuchel as potential Erik ten Hag replacement as crunch meeting looms

Manchester United are reportedly lining up Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement for the under-fire Erik ten Hag.

That is according to the Manchester Evening News, who state that while other managers are admired, Tuchel being immediately attainable makes him an attractive choice, having left Bayern Munich at the end of last season.

The former Chelsea manager reportedly held talks with United over the summer, before the decision to retain Ten Hag and offer him a contract extension was confirmed.

However, with the club enduring their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, the Dutchman is under mounting pressure, and could see his future decided during the current international break.

The United hierarchy, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer, are due to meet in London for a pre-scheduled meeting on Tuesday, with Ten Hag’s position likely to be a topic of discussion.

Despite the very poor start to the season, with just two wins from seven Premier League game so far, Ten Hag has been steadfast in his belief that his job is safe.

After the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on Sunday, he said: "I speak continuously with them [the owners] and just after the game I have to do my job, talk with the players, manage the players and answer questions from you.

“We always talk. Every week, I would say every day we talk, so I expect I will speak with them."

United are currently languishing 14th in the Premier League table, having already achieved their lowest post-1992 finish last season, coming eighth before winning the FA Cup.
