Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes breaks silence on Erik ten Hag sacking

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is the first player to break their silence on Erik ten Hag’s sacking as manager.

The news emerged earlier on Monday, with United confirming the decision after Ten Hag oversaw yet another miserable start to a season culminating with a 2-1 loss at fellow strugglers West Ham.

Assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has been put in interim charge, and remains the favourite to get the job on a permanent basis. The likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank and Ruben Almiron are also in the running.

Fernandes, who has come under fire for his performances in recent weeks and months, acknowledged the club’s poor form and thanked the departed Dutchman.

Fernandes wrote on Instagram: “Thanks for everything, boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best.

“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things Erik has done for our club.”
