Manchester United reportedly requested a lift on Manchester City's private jet for two of their players set to attend Monday night's Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris but were rejected by their fierce rivals.

The Reds have two nominees in the Kopa Trophy award with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo battling with the likes of City's Savinho, PSG's Joao Neves and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal for the coveted award for young players. According to the Daily Mail, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos asked if City had room on their private flight from Manchester to Paris for their two young players.

This request is said to have been denied by City as their flight is already full. Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Rodri have all been nominated for the men's Ballon d'Or while Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw received nominations for the women's Ballon d'Or.

As mentioned, Savinho has been nominated for the Kopa Trophy while Pep Guardiola is up for Men's Coach of the Year. It is claimed by the newspaper that Ratcliffe's request was part of his cost-cutting measures at Old Trafford and the idea of chartering a single private jet just for United's two nominees was not a wise financial decision.

However another theory could be that United were aiming to reduce their use of private jets in order to reduce their carbon footprint and impact on the environment. Unlike some Premier League clubs, United often take trains to away games.

After having their request rejected by City, it is reported that United did organise other transport for Garnacho and Mainoo so they can attend the ceremony.
