At senior level, Liverpool moved to the top of the Premier League while beating Brighton this weekend. But at youth level, the results were more mixed.

Trey Nyoni, fresh from coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup midweek, opened the scoring for Liverpool U21s against Wolves. Ranel Young, who was among the subs at the Amex Stadium, got a brace and Tom Hill also netted in a 4-1 victory. Winger Kieran Morrison, a Northern Irish youth international, got a hat-trick of assists as his impressive season continues.

Eight games into the new season, Barry Lewtas' side sits fourth in the Premier League 2 standings. Manchester City is top, three points ahead of the Reds, with Blackpool in the EFL Trophy up next.

At U18 level, however, Liverpool lost 3-1 to Manchester City. Joshua Sonnie-Lambie scored for the Reds, but Kian Noble put the Citizens ahead again two minutes later, and Kaden Braithwaite secured the result in the second half.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side has won just one out of eight matches this season in the U18 Premier League. It is second-bottom in the standings at the moment but could overtake Stoke City in its next game with a victory of more than two goals.

Liverpool.com says: Nyoni and Morrison are definitely two players to watch at youth level this season. Results-wise, while things are not going well for the U18s, that is not the main priority. The main thing is that players are coming through the system.

The biggest win for the Academy this week was Nyoni playing for the senior team and Young being named in a senior matchday squad for the first time. As long as that continues to happen and there is no reason that it won't then Liverpool will be pleased.
