Reports in Spain are suggesting that Liverpool and Real Madrid both now agree that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not sign a new contract at Anfield.

The Reds vice-captain’s future remains up in the air as the clock ticks down on his current deal. As things stand, Alexander-Arnold will be out of contract at the end of the season, and fears are growing among supporters that he could be set to leave.

A move to the Bernabeu could be on the cards, with Real said to be in the market for a new right-back. Some reports have even suggested the Spanish giant could try to sign Alexander-Arnold in January amid their injury crisis in defense.

The most likely scenario though is that Los Blancos will try to secure the 26-year-old on a free transfer next summer. Alexander-Arnold will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January unless he puts pen to paper on a new deal at Liverpool.

According to Marca, though, that is looking less and less likely. It’s claimed that both Liverpool and Real agree that the England international will not renew his deal, and expect him to depart in 2025.

The only question that remains is whether he will head to the Bernabeu next summer as expected, or whether Real will try to force through a move in the New Year given Carlo Ancelotti is running out of options in his squad.

Real though is said to be keen not to risk its relationship with Liverpool, especially with the two sides meeting in the Champions League later this month, and is wary of showing signs of needing to sign Alexander-Arnold early for fear of the Reds bumping up his price.

Elsewhere, Cadena SER claims Real has already outlined the details of the contract it will offer Alexander-Arnold. The Spanish outlet claims a four-year deal is in the works, placing him on the second rung of the club’s salary scale.

That would mean he would be expected to earn something in the region of $10.6m (£8.3m/€10m) per season, placing him behind the likes of Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham. If that is the case, it could mean Alexander-Arnold may actually have to take a pay cut, with Spotrac listing him as earning $11.9m (£9.36m/€11.2m) a year at Liverpool.

Liverpool.com says: If Alexander-Arnold has made his mind up, and has decided he wants to make the move to Real Madrid, then it would only make sense for Liverpool to consider offers from Real if the opportunity is there in January. It would be better to get some money back rather than nothing, although we suspect the Spanish club will just wait to get him on a free in the summer.
