Gossip: Barcelona 'prioritise £44m Bellerin', Bayern 'join Lukaku race, Van Dijk 'chooses Liverpool'
The good news for Arsenal fans is that Luis Enrique’s departure from Barcelona means he will stop trying to buy Hector Bellerin. The bad news for Arsenal fans is that Enrique’s successor, Ernesto Valverde, has an even greater desire to buy Bellerin than Enrique did.
The Express reports that the freshly appointed Nou Camp coach has made the Alice band-wearing right-back a “priority” signing and is prepared to spend £44m to bring him home to Catalonia.
Barca’s sporting director Robert Fernandez, who sounds like a cool man who would look excellent in sunglasses, will “meet Bellerin personally” and attempt to convince the 22-year-old to quit the Gunners. Shouldn’t be that difficult? Just direct to him to the “Current first-team squad” and “Honours” sections on Wikipedia.

Bellerin did, you may recall, sign a six-year Gunners contract last season that would supposedly keep him at the Emirates until the year 2023 when everyone is driving flying cars and Donald Trump has single-handedly increased the average temperature in Huddersfield to 42 degrees Celcius. But who really cares about contracts?
There is more “good news” for the Gunners in the Mirror, which reports that Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis have been “spotted” in Nice, France.

Granted, this may not seem especially exciting on its own, because it’s essentially just two men who work together (one of them French) being in France. But the Mirror says it means Arsenal “could be poised” to sign Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, who lives just around the corner in Monaco.
Wenger and Gazidis reportedly “looked deep in conversation”, which is further evidence that they were either talking about Mpabbe, or possibly working out where they should go for lunch.
Sausages
Romelu Lukaku loves lunch – that’s what makes him so strong. And the Mirror suggests he has been presented with the possibility of indulging in lots of Bavarian cuisine next season (which, to Hot Football Transfer Gossip’s knowledge, mainly involves sausages) by joining Bayern Munich.
The German champions have reportedly “joined the race” to sign the Belgian striker, who is also wanted by Chelsea and Manchester United, as you know. Lukaku’s father, Roger, is said to be “particularly receptive” to a move to the Allianz Arena. A big fan of sausages, perhaps.
Meanwhile, Man Utd and Arsenal both appear to have been dealt a blow by the news – reported in the Sun – that Real Madrid have made an £118m bid for the aforementioned Mbappe. Oh well.
Elsewhere, Chelsea are STILL trying to sign Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci and are hoping to sign him for £48m (Sun), out-of-contract Real Madrid defender Pepe will sign a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain after leaving the Bernabeu (Marca) and Liverpool have beaten Man City and Chelsea to the £60m signing of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk (Mirror). At this point, there surely needs to be a proper and transparent investigation into whether all Southampton players have a clause in their contracts stating they have to join Liverpool if they get good.
