Germany vs Netherlands LIVE!

Germany host the Netherlands as two European heavyweights go head to head in Munich tonight. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have bounced back from the disappointment of being knocked out of Euro 2024 at the quarter-finals stage by making an unbeaten start to their Nations League campaign. Germany sit top of Group A3 with seven points from three games, in which they have scored nine goals.

Die Mannschaft will be without both Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala in attack against the Dutch due to injury, but will hope Deniz Undav can maintain his good goalscoring form after three goals in his last two games. Undav netted a brace in Germany’s 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, which also saw a first cap for goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.

The Netherlands are just two points behind Germany after their frustrating 1-1 draw with Hungary last time out, which saw captain Virgil van Dijk sent off. With Van Dijk suspended for this game Matthijs de Ligt is expected to partner Stefan de Vrij in central defence, with Micky van de Ven shifting out to left-back again. Frenkie de Jong, Teun Koopmeiners and Jerdy Schouten remain sidelined for Ronald Koeman’s side. Follow all the updates from the Allianz Arena with our dedicated LIVE blog below!

Germany replace Wirtz with Andrich.

HT: Germany 0-0 Netherlands

20:37 , Jamie Dickenson

That’s half-time at the Allianz Arena and Germany will be rueing VAR’s intervention after just two minutes when they ruled out Leweling’s effort.

Gakpo had the Netherlands’ only half-chance when his looping cross came off the bar, before Leweling nearly scored again but De Vrij was in the right place at the right time to block.

Germany have had far more attempts than their opponents, but will be desperate to convert their domination into a lead in the second half.

Germany will host a ceremony to commemorate Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and Ilkay Gundogan after all four players retired following Euro 2024.

However, former Real Madrid midfielder Kroos will not be in attendance.

“Kroos would like to be there in person in Munich, but will be on the pitch himself on Monday with children as part of training in his youth academy,” the DFB said in a statement.

Last time they met...

18:14 , Jamie Dickenson

The Netherlands and Germany played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in Amsterdam when they met in the Nations League last month, with the Dutch coming from behind to secure a point.

Head to head record

18:09 , Jamie Dickenson

Germany and the Netherlands have one of the longest-standing rivalries in international football, deeply rooted in Dutch anti-German sentiment following World War II.

The 1974 World Cup final in which Germany beat the Netherlands 2-1 was a bitter loss for the Dutch, who had to wait 14 years for revenge when they reversed that scoreline in the semi-finals of Euro 1988 on route to winning the tournament.

Germany have had the better of things in recent years, remaining unbeaten from their last three fixtures with the Netherlands.

Germany wins: 17

Draws: 18

Netherlands wins: 12

Standard Sport Prediction

17:46 , Jamie Dickenson

These sides drew 2-2 when they met last month in Amsterdam and we expect more goals this time around.

Germany might struggle without Havertz and Musiala but the Netherlands are missing captain Van Dijk.

This one could be a tight battle so we’re going for a share of the spoils.

Draw, 1-1.
