Darwin Nunez was keen to point to Mohamed Salah's involvement after Liverpool opened the scoring against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The Uruguayan poked home from close range to score the only goal of the game.

Marking his fourth start under Arne Slot, Nunez scored his second goal of the campaign with a neat finish. Showing good movement inside the penalty area and poaching a goal when the chance arose, it was the kind of involvement that Nunez needs to provide more often for Liverpool more than two years on since he arrived for a potentially club-record fee from Benfica.

According to the Daily Mail, while Nunez got a goal which should be great for his confidence, he immediately tried to point to Salah's contribution. "No, it's Mo," he supposedly told Virgil van Dijk, who was having none of it.

Liverpool captain Van Dijk gave him a friendly push in the chest. "We need more," the Dutchman is claimed to have said, ignoring Nunez's modest comment. Salah was more than happy to provide the assist, though he was later unhappy at being substituted.

"I’m always happy when we score a goal and I’m not that much into it who scores it," Slot said during his post-match press conference when he was asked about Nunez's goal. "It is always good to see all of our players scoring goals and I think in the lead-up to the goal, Cody [Gakpo] and Mo [Salah] were just as important in the goal as Darwin was.

"What I liked from Darwin was that he was also strong, comfortable on the ball, kept the ball a lot, fighting if he had to defend, so he made it a really difficult game for the two centre-backs of Leipzig. And then for him scoring, I think that is always nice for a striker to be on the scoresheet."

Liverpool.com says: Van Dijk was right to give Nunez credit. This is the exact kind of easy goal that he should be capable of padding his numbers with. For his confidence, it should do wonders which could be vital ahead of another potential start for Nunez against Arsenal at the weekend if Diogo Jota misses out.
