Ex-Liverpool and Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge reckons Arne Slot's side will win the Premier League this season.

On Sunday, the Reds returned from the international break to claim a 2-1 win over Chelsea, a result which moved the back to the top of the Premier League. Just half an hour prior to kick-off at Anfield, defending champions Manchester City scored a late winner through John Stones, who headed home for Pep Guardiola's side in injury-time to help his side beat Wolves 2-1.

While the goal was reviewed by VAR, it was eventually given after referee Chris Kavanagh ruled Bernardo Silva was not infringing upon Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa prior to Stones' winner. And the two wins for Liverpool and Man City now mean they have opened up a slight gap on third place Arsenal.

The Gunners fell 2-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday night, in a game which also saw William Saliba sent off. The French defender will miss the clash against Liverpool next weekend, which if the Reds win, will mean Slot's side will sit seven points clear of Mikel Arteta's.

There no doubt this season that it looks as though the Premier League title will be won by one of the three, just like it was last term. However, speaking on Sky Sports following Liverpool's win over Chelsea, ex-Reds striker Sturridge, who nearly helped the club win the 2013/14 Premier League title alongside Luis Suarez, reckons it will be Slot and co who lift the trophy come May.

"I am going to go with Liverpool," said Sturridge. "What they are doing right now is playing magnificent football. It would be very difficult for me to think that Liverpool can't carry this on. If City can win five in a row, then wow, but I am going for Liverpool."

Liverpool.com says: "There's no doubt Liverpool can win the Premier League title this term. They've started the season brilliantly having won seven of their opening eight games. However, they need to maintain this run of form throughout the tricky slate of fixtures they have coming up.

"The Reds upcoming fixtures are a real gauntlet, with Liverpool taking on RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton (in the Carabao Cup and Premier League), Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa in their next six games."
