Just one week remains of the final international break of the year, much to the relief of football fans all across the world.

With this being the third of the season already, it is safe to say it has been somewhat of a stop-start season so far in 2024-25. However, that will finally come to an end, with the next set of international fixtures not being played until March.

This time around, though, things are slightly different, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold not in action for Egypt and England, respectively.

But for the 17 first-team stars who have jetted off to various locations around the world, some big games lay in wait. Liverpool.com tells you all you need to know from the first round of fixtures this week.

Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah - England

Trent Alexander-Arnold may have withdrawn through injury but Curtis Jones made sure he did Liverpool proud with a fantastic display in England's 3-0 victory over Greece on Thursday. Not only did the midfielder earn his first England cap, but he also found the back of the net to cap off a memorable Three Lions debut.

Reds teammate Jarell Quansah was also part of the squad following his late addition as a replacement for the injured Jarrad Branthwaite, but will have to wait a little longer for his first taste of men's senior football for England after failing to make it off the bench in Athens, although Sunday's clash with Ireland looks promising.

Kostas Tsimikas - Greece

Having missed out on Greece's famous 2-1 victory over England at Wembley in the last international break through illness, Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas would have been chomping at the bit to face off against the Three Lions in midweek as his side looked to secure promotion in the Nations League.

As it happened, however, Tsimikas could do nothing to prevent the hosts from falling to a heavy 3-0 defeat and, despite starting the tie, managed just 57 minutes before being replaced. He will now hope for a better outcome when Greece takes on Finland in its final Nations League encounter on Sunday.

Ibrahima Konate - France

France knew that just a point against Israel on Thursday would secure its progression to the quarter-finals of the Nations League and with the help of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, it did just that, keeping a clean sheet in its 0-0 draw at the Stade de France.

The Reds center-back featured for the full 90 minutes as he continues to shine for Les Bleus at the heart of the defense, and will hope to retain his place for Sunday's huge clash away to group leaders Italy as they battle for top spot.

Caoimhin Kelleher - Republic of Ireland

Having benefitted from Alison's long-term injury with an extended run in Liverpool's team, back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher took his fine recent form into the international break with Ireland for Thursday's crucial 1-0 victory over Finland.

Producing a number of saves including a penalty, the 25-year-old recorded an important clean sheet to secure his side's safety in Nations League B, with another three points against the Scandinavian nation ensuring Ireland can no longer be relegated from the group. A big clash away to England at Wembley on Sunday awaits.

Alexis Mac Allister - Argentina

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister could do little to prevent Argentina from falling to its third defeat of its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on Thursday as the current holders lost 2-1 Paraguay.

Mac Allister started the tie but was withdrawn shortly after the hour mark, with Lionel Scaloni potentially looking to save him for Tuesday's clash with Peru. Argentina remains top of the standings in South American qualification but has now won just one of its last four matches.

Wataru Endo - Japan

Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo hasn't enjoyed the best of luck so far this season but continues to shine on the international stage for Japan, most recently captaining his nation to a 4-0 victory over Indonesia in World Cup qualifying on Friday.

The 31-year-old played the full 90 minutes of the tie as the Samurai Blue moved seven points clear at the top of the group standings, and will now look to pick up another three points when they travel to face China on Tuesday.

Tyler Morton - England U21s

Like Endo, Reds youngster Tyler Morton has been restricted to gametime under Arne Slot so far this season but was once again named in the starting XI for England U21's when it took on Spain in an international friendly on Friday.

The 22-year-old managed 78 minutes of the 0-0 draw in Cadiz before being replaced by Plymouth Argyle loanee Darko Gyabi but will target another start when the Three Lions take on the Netherlands on Monday.

Andy Robertson, Ben Doak - Scotland

Both Andy Robertson and Ben Doak started Scotland's impressive 1-0 victory over 10-man Croatia on Friday to keep the Tartan Army's Nations League hopes alive, with the former captaining his side throughout the full 90 minutes as he helped to keep a vital clean sheet.

It was Reds youngster Doak, however, who impressed the most. Currently on loan at Middlesbrough for the season, the 19-year-old earned the player of the match award for his performance, terrorizing Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol and earning rave reviews from national media.

Conor Bradley - Northern Ireland

Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley continues to be the star of the show for Northern Ireland, this time helping his nation to a 2-0 victory over Belarus to maintain its two-point lead at the top of its Nations League group.

The youngster played the majority of the tie before being replaced in second-half injury time, but once again impressed down the right-hand side for Michael O'Neill's outfit, which travels to face Luxembourg in a huge game on Monday.

Luis Diaz - Colombia

It was a tough night for Luis Diaz and Colombia on Friday as La Tricolor fell to a 3-2 defeat against Darwin Nunez's Uruguay in South American World Cup qualifying, slipping down to third in the standings at the expense of their hosts.

Diaz was handed captaincy duties by head coach Nestor Lorenzo but despite playing the full 90 minutes of the tie, could not help his team avoid just its second loss in 11 qualifiers. A big game against Ecuador now awaits on Tuesday.

Darwin Nunez - Uruguay

Like Diaz, Liverpool striker Nunez played the full 90 minutes of Uruguay's 3-2 victory over Colombia as his nation closed the gap on Argentina at the top of the CONMEBOL qualifying standings.

The 25-year-old was unable to get himself on the scoresheet but made sure to get involved in the drama by celebrating directly in the face of former Everton defender Yerry Mina following Manuel Ugarte's winner in the 11th-minute of second-half stoppage time.

Dominik Szoboszlai - Hungary

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai endured a horrific night during Hungary's clash with the Netherlands on Saturday as the 24-year-old captained his side to a 4-0 defeat amid incredibly distressing scenes.

Just seven minutes had been played when Hungary assistant coach Adam Szalai was involved in a medical emergency mid-match, collapsing in the dugout with witnesses suggesting he suffered some form of seizure. The incident left Szoboszlai in tears on the pitch, although thankfully the 36-year-old regained consciousness before being taken to hospital.

Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk - Netherlands

Liverpool's Dutch trio of Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk all played their part in the 4-0 victory over Hungary, with the former finding himself on the scoresheet for the eighth time this season with his penalty in first-half added time.

Gakpo managed 79 minutes of the tie before being substituted alongside Gravenberch, with Van Dijk managing the full 90 minutes as captain of the side. The victory secured the Netherlands' place in the quarter-finals ahead of its final fixture against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday.
