'I have to speak Northern' Sarah Ferguson lands Coronation Street cameo

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is confident she has landed a cameo in 'Coronation Street', for which she will have to "speak Northern".

The 64-year-old royal - who once had a cameo on US sitcom 'Friends' - visited the ITV soap's set in Media City, Salford Quays on Wednesday (09.10.24), where she pulled a pint in the iconic Rovers Return pub.

Speaking of her day on the cobbles, she said on 'This Morning': "I think I've persuaded the director to give me a cameo part.

"I'm going to practice my pint pulling, and I'm going to have hotpot.

"And, apparently, what else I have to do is speak Northern.

"I'm very sorry to all Northerners watching, but I have to say, 'Mug.' "

Sarah was shown around by 'Corrie' legend Sally Dynevor - who has played Sally Metcalfe in the show since 1986 - and beforehand they toured the Prevent Breast Cancer charity headquarters in nearby Wythenshawe, Manchester.

Both the duchess - who is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew - and Sally are patrons of the Prevent Breast Cancer charity.

Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and she underwent a mastectomy.

Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, at the same time she was filming a storyline about her character being diagnosed with the disease.

While the duchess is keen for a cobbles cameo, she has previously turned down offers to compete on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' "hundreds of times".

She told Platinum Magazine: "I’ve asked my agent to get me on ‘Bridgerton’! The set designs are incredible!

"I could be a long-lost friend for Penelope (Featherington – played by Nicola Coughlan.) I just have to be on Bridgerton!

"I’ve been asked to go on ‘I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!’ hundreds of times, and the answer is always no. I’m sure it’s lovely for lots of people but not for me!"
