Miranda Hart is married.

The 51-year-old comedienne has remained coy about her private life during her years in showbiz but has now revealed that she met a mystery man just over two years ago and they have now tied the knot, almost a decade after she gave her on-screen alter ego on her sitcom a husband in the form of Tom Ellis.

Speaking on BBC's 'The One Show', she said: "I can now swap this ring to the other side and say...someone put a ring on it! I got married at 51, it's so lovely. I'd written Gary for on-screen Miranda and it wasn't until I was 49 that I met my person. I'm not gonna reveal how we met, because there's a little bit a twist. "He's not called Gary, nor is it Tom Ellis. But he's my best friend and I'm just thrilled to be a young bride at 51!"

Miranda reveals in her new book 'I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You' that she has battled struggle with chronic fatigue after being diagnosed with Lyme disease, and believes that there is "always hope" if she has managed to find love in the end.

She said: "The fact that I met someone, during a pandemic, with a chronic illness...the fact that i could meet somebody, it's not a romcom story, but it's hope. There is always hope."

The TV star shot to fame when she wrote and starred in her own semi-biographical sitcom from 2009 until 2013 alongside 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestant Sarah Hadland, and even though the finale aired as a festive special in 2015, she has teased that she is "really keen" to get back to the studio in one form or another.

She said: "I'm really keen to get back to some silliness now. I miss the studio floor, I miss laughter. I don't have any ideas yet but I miss fooling around."
