Margot Robbie was confused by Harley Quinn’s romance with Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’
Margot Robbie has admitted that even she was left confused by her character Harley Quinn’s romance with Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad.
The Oscar nominated actress made this confession when various journalists visited the set of Birds Of Prey, the upcoming spin-off to the 2016 comic-book movie in which Robbie made her debut as Harley Quinn.

"The first film, [her] relationship with Joker always did confuse me the most," remarked Robbie, according to ComicBook.com. "That was the thing that took me the longest to get my head around.”
She didn’t have the same issue with Birds Of Prey, which is written by Christina Hodson, directed by Cathy Yan, and Robbie has produced as well as starred in, as it explores Harley Quinn “not being with Joker.”
“And I actually understand the break-up. That’s something I feel like everyone can kind of understand and relate to in some ways. Though she deals with--like she blows things up, I don’t do that. I understand the motivation that spurred on that train of thought."

While Suicide Squad explored the female super-villain’s “co-dependence with the Joker,” and the huge influence he held over her, one of Robbie’s main interests with Birds Of Prey was looking at what she was like “out of a relationship” and seeing every “different facet of her [multiple] personalities.”
We’ll get to see just that when Birds Of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn), which as well as Robbie also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ali Wong, Rosie Perez, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Chris Essina and Ewan McGregor, when it is released on February 7.
Meanwhile, following the success of Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, it doesn’t look as though we’ll ever see Jared Leto play the character again.
