Kirsten Dunst says tweet about her being 'best known as Spider-Man's girlfriend' was 'ignorant'
Kirsten Dunst has hit out at an “ignorant” tweet by news agency Reuters, which described her as “best known for her role as Spider-Man’s girlfriend”.
The 37-year-old star said it was “pretty s***ty” that the news organisation had defined her as the girlfriend of a superhero, despite her 30-year Hollywood career.

In a since-deleted tweet sharing video footage of Dunst’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Reuters wrote: “Kirsten Dunst, best known for her role as Spiderman’s girlfriend, receives a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame”.
Dunst portrayed Mary Jane Watson opposite Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker in three Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi between 2002 and 2007.
The tweet was heavily criticised and now, speaking on CBS show The Talk, Dunst has added her own voice to the discussion.
She said: “I don't really look at Twitter and stuff, so I'm not really a social media girl. But I was looking for the show and everything.
“I read it too, and I was like, yeah, that's pretty s***ty.
“So I was proud that my fans and everyone rallied around and supported me.
“It was a very ignorant tweet, and it was done probably very carelessly — by a man.”

It was on the set of Fargo that Dunst met her fiancé — actor Jesse Plemons.
