James Nesbitt's forgotten Irish comedy is now on Netflix
James Nesbitt's forgotten Irish comedy Waking Ned is now available on Netflix UK and Ireland.
Released all the way back in 1998, the film (titled Waking Ned Devine in the US) is a relatively early role for the Cold Feet and The Missing actor.
The film follows a couple in rural Ireland who discover that one of their neighbours has won the lottery and become incredibly wealthy.
After doing some detective work, they discover who the lucky person is... only that there's a major plot twist, and a comedy of deception plays out. We won't spoil anything, don't worry.

Waking Ned actually has a really strong score on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 84% from 61 critics reviews, and an 88% from over 25,000 fan ratings. Common themes from the reviews are that the film is an easy feel-good watch, with plenty of strong, uncomplicated humour.
It made a pretty good $55 million at the worldwide box office, but isn't a film that gets mentioned all that often nowadays. Will this Netflix addition give it a new lease of life?
The streaming service has added quite a few Nesbitt projects recently, including the ITV drama The Secret (2016), and Channel 4 dramas Babylon (2014) and Suspect (2022).

Meanwhile, the release date for upcoming Harlan Coben thriller Missing You — which stars Nesbitt, as well as recurring Coben star Richard Armitage — has been announced.
Similarly to Fool Me Once this year, the new series will drop on Netflix on New Year's Day. The show follows Detective Kat Donovan as she comes face-to-face with her fiancé who disappeared 11 years ago and unearths secrets about her father's murder.
