Golden Globes 2012: nominations announced

'The Artist', 'The Help' and 'The Descendants' scoop most nominations for 69th Golden Globes

The 2012 Golden Globe nominations have been announced, with silent flick 'The Artist' cementing it's status as a frontrunner for 'The Oscars' after it's nod for 'Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical'.

The silent movie homage scooped six nominations, with George Clooney drama 'The Descendents' and 'The Help' nabbing five.

Clooney will actually be competing against himself, as his own directorial effort 'The Ides of March' has been nominated in the 'Best Director' along 'The Descendants'.

The big surprise might be the lack of nominations for 'War Horse'.  Steven Spielberg's adaption of the hit play was expected to be a big hitter this awards season, but it only picked up one nod.
