Edward Furlong 'bummed out' by 'Terminator: Dark Fate' role

While most are more likely to be distancing themselves from Terminator: Dark Fate, Edward Furlong was actually hoping for a little bit more out of it.

Furlong played the original John Connor as a teen star in James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day back in 1991.

And fans were certainly intrigued when it emerged he'd been cast in Dark Fate, produced by Cameron as a direct sequel to T2, disregarding the plot lines of the many consequent movies.

But sadly, Furlong's John Connor doesn't last too long in the new chapter.

Opening in 1998, three years after the events of Terminator 2, a T-800 turns up where he and mother Sarah Connor are holing up in Guatemala, murdering John in the opening scenes.

It seems that it was perhaps not the comeback he was hoping for.

Speaking to YouTuber Alex Leyba, he explained: “They smoked my ass. That was the role.”

He continues: “I did it for a day – I shot for one day. And, yeah, we did some CGI. They paid me. So, I mean, ya know. It kinda bums me out.

“Cause I’d love to do a whole one and make a sh*t-ton of money. I would love to do more, but we’ll see what happens.”

What happens could be somewhat up in the air for the franchise, and not least in Furlong’s case, considering he was offed in the opening scenes.

Despite Cameron’s involvement and the return of Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the movie has performed disastrously at the worldwide box office.

It’s made less than $250 million (£194 million), with losses likely to come in at $130 million.

Furlong, who made his feature debut in T2, went on to star in movies like crime drama Little Odessa, American History X and Animal Factory, however he struggled with drug and alcohol abuse issues, first entering rehab in 2000.

He was also arrested and charged on several occasions for domestic abuse.
