A Nice Indian Boy, starring Deadpool's Karan Soni and Mindhunter's Jonathan Groff, has landed a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes after its first reviews.

The upcoming film – which is described as "a fresh queer and Indian spin on the tropes of the rom-com" – stars Soni and Groff as Naveen and Jay, whose whirlwind romance soon leads to an engagement.

However, Naveen has yet to introduce his family to Jay – who isn’t quite what that they are expecting.

While the film is yet to receive an offical release date, it debuted at SXSW (South by Southwest Film Festival) earlier this year and also screens at the BFI London Film Festival today.

At the time of writing, A Nice Indian Boy has an impressive critics' score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from nine reviews.

Here's what some of the critics have been saying:

The Hollywood Reporter

"By the end, even those who don’t fancy themselves the sentimental type — as Naveen doesn’t, and I don’t particularly either — are likely to be won over by its modest but dependable charms."

Collider

"Not only does it call back to these adored classics from the '90s and early 2000s, but it’s also a queer love story that blows right past some of the heteronormative love stories that have been dropped on streamers in recent years."

Screen Rant

"A Nice Indian Boy perfectly blends romance and comedy and throws in culture and a whole lot of heart to go with it. Karan Soni and Hamilton's Jonathan Groff are pitch-perfect together, and the obstacles they face — internal and family-related — are handled with care and love."

Mashable

"A riotous, moving queer romantic comedy with a wildly unique premise. While it resembles many modern third-culture stories, it widens its scope in surprising ways that reflect and refract both personal and cinematic identity."

IndieWire

"A Nice Indian Boy delights in defying expectations, even as it follows a traditional love story structure."

A Nice Indian Boy is yet to receive a UK release date.
