Bank of England lends record 11.130 bln pounds in 3-month funds to banks

LONDON, March 26 (Reuters) - The Bank of England lent a record 11.130 billion pounds ($13.3 billion) in three-month sterling funds to banks in a repo operation on Thursday, reflecting financial markets' ongoing hunger for liquidity.

The sum allocated in the Contingent Term Repo Facility was the highest ever under the programme, which is only activated at times of financial stress and last ran during the euro zone debt crisis in 2012.

The sum also exceeds all allocations in the BoE's regular Indexed Long-Term Repo operations, which started in 2010. ($1 = 0.8370 pounds) (Reporting by David Milliken Editing by William Schomberg)
