You've heard about Ryan Williams. Meet Caleb Odom, the other Alabama football freshman WR

Heading into the 2024 college football season, one thing is for sure on the Alabama football team: It does not lack of young, talented players at wide receiver.

The Crimson Tide has true freshman Ryan Williams, who came to UA as a two-time Alabama Mr. Football winner and a unanimous five-star prospect out of Saraland.

It also has fellow true freshman Caleb Odom, a unanimous four-star prospect out of Carrollton, Georgia. Odom, like Williams, has been garnering praise from teammates and coaches alike through spring and fall practices.

"Every day Caleb does something to impress you and every day there’s still things for him to improve on," offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan said Wednesday. "I know coach Shep is pointing those out. In every moment that Caleb’s out there, he’s getting coached extremely hard. A lot to be excited about and a lot to work on and we’re super happy with where Caleb’s at and we know there’s still even more for him to grow and get better at, and he’s working on that every day."

Odom initially came to Alabama as a tight end but was moved to wide receiver in the spring. He is now the tallest receiver on the roster. Standing at 6-foot-5, 227 pounds, he figuress to be a good complement to shorter and quicker receivers like Kendrick Law (5-11, 209) and Kobe Prentice (5-10, 188).

"I think with Caleb, we’re just trying to put him in a position to be successful early on in his career. You know he’s a big kid. He’s very athletic. He’s very explosive. He has a great frame," Sheridan said on Odom's position move in the spring. "How his body grows and what he turns into being when he’s 20, 21, 22 years old, I think time will tell.

"He certainly runs plenty good enough to play wide receiver. He runs very well, he’s a big target. So we just tried to put him in a position early on, to not try to run into 275-pound people, you know, put him in a position so he can have success."

During his senior year at Carrollton High, Odom hauled in 46 receptions for 748 yards and 12 touchdowns. During his junior season, he eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark, recording 64 receptions for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Odom is competing for playing time in a wide receiver room that returns experience in Emmanuel Henderson Jr., Law and Prentice along with Washington transfer Germie Bernard. Odom, alongside Williams, will be looking for an impactful freshman season.

"Everyday, they all are improving," Henderson said of Williams and Odom on Wednesday. "I'm here to help them get better each and everyday as a older guy. We are just going to continue building off that and continue to learn and get better."
