Yankees break a century-long streak of reaching the World Series every decade
With a crack of the bat against a hanging Aroldis Chapman slider, Houston Astros star Jose Altuve sent his team to another World Series. He also guaranteed the New York Yankees will not be reaching the World Series, which ends an incredible streak for MLB’s premier team.
The Yankees’ elimination in the ALCS means that the team will not appear in the World Series this decade, from 2010 to 2019, as noted by MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch during Game 6. It’s the first time the franchise has missed out on the Fall Classic in such a span since the 1910s, the first full decade of the event’s existence.
The 2010s also mark the fourth decade in which the team didn’t win a title, joining the 1900s, 1910s and 1980s.

All of MLB is surely weeping for the Yankees’ misfortune.
It really did look like the Yankees could pull it out to end the decade, winning 103 games and featuring an absolutely stacked lineup and bullpen. Unfortunately, the team’s starting pitching was exposed against the Astros, who simply looked like the better team over the course of six games.
The Yankees will now head back to New York and address some significant question marks, lest the team miss out on the 2020s World Series as well.
