Gleyber Torres catapulted the New York Yankees into the record books on Saturday, hitting the team’s record-setting 265th home run of 2018.

The Yankees entered the day tied with the 1997 Seattle Mariners for the most team home runs in a single season with 264, but now have the incredible record all to themselves.

The Yankees mashed four homers to tie the record against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday. In the process, New York secured home field in Wednesday’s AL wild-card game. In Saturday’s game, Torres launched a two-run blast in the fourth inning to help the Yankees win their 100th game of the season.

Giancarlo Stanton added another home run later to secure the 8-5 victory. The Yankees could ultimately smash the former record with a game still on Sunday.

Home is where the homers are

Speaking of the Yankees home-field advantage, they led MLB with 144 home runs at home this season. That’s 27 more than the next closest team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It’s also 30 more than the Yankees hit at home in 2015. They’ve steadily increased since then thanks to the breakouts of Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez, along with the addition of Giancarlo Stanton.

Rookie mashers

We can’t forget the rookies either. Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres made some history of their own, becoming the first Yankees rookie duo to hit at least 15 home runs in the same season. Of course, that was accomplished several weeks ago. They’ve now combined for 51 homers on the season, with Andujar mashing 27 by himself.

Other home run records

With all of these different players posting big home run totals it should be no surprise the Yankees have set other notable marks. The Yankees franchise record was 245, which was shattered by Luke Voit’s home run on Sept. 21. Yes, they’ve blown well past some incredibly deep and power Yankees lineups this season.

That same Voit home run made the Yankees the first team in MLB history to have 12 players with at least 10 home runs. In addition to Voit, the group includes Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Torres, Andujar, Austin Romine, Greg Bird, Didi Gregorius, Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Neil Walker.
