If most other quarterbacks pulled what Russell Wilson did at the end of the first half on Monday, they’d never hear the end of it.

Wilson is a great quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, but he made a rookie mistake against the Minnesota Vikings. Even most rookies wouldn’t have thrown an interception that bad.

The Seahawks drove to the 1-yard line in the final seconds of the half, holding a 3-0 lead. They had first-and-goal. The worst-case scenario seemed to be another field goal before the half. But, as we’ve seen before, the Seahawks being at the 1-yard line guarantees nothing.

The Seahawks rolled Wilson right, he had nothing so he turned back left. Wilson is a master of improvisation, so no problem there. But then the pass rush closed on him fast and Wilson — who couldn’t take a sack with no timeouts left — just flung the ball without looking out to the right.

The only good part of the play for Wilson was that it didn’t turn into a Vikings touchdown. Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks was camped under the pass and made an easy interception with nothing but open field in front of him. Kendricks tripped or he would have had a chance for a long return and possibly a score.

The score remained 3-0 at the half. Wilson is a magician at times with the plays he pulls out of nowhere, but his last pass of the first half Monday night wasn’t one of those magic moments.
