Woj: Clippers expected to go back to Sixers soon with new trade offer

The Philadelphia 76ers are still working their way through the James Harden trade request before the new season begins on Oct. 26. The Sixers have been underwhelmed by any trade offers they have received from the Los Angeles Clippers, Harden’s preferred destination, but LA is working on trying to change that.

The Sixers want either an impact player from the Clippers to remain in contention or they want a slew of draft picks that they can then flip to another team in order to acquire that impact player to help Joel Embiid contend.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on “NBA Today” that the Clippers are currently working on their offer and are expected to make a new offer to the Sixers soon:

The Clippers have spent the last couple of weeks talking to teams around the league about their own 2028 unprotected first-round pick, and potentially maybe another pick swap they have to see what value that has with other teams. Teams who have lots of first-round picks where we’re going to be star hunting and think that has great value in a trade. Can they get two first-round picks for that? Can they get maybe one unprotected, one protected pick because teams might gamble that they don’t think the Clippers will be very good in 2028. That pick could have a lot of value and you talk to those teams, they expect the Clippers now very soon to go back to Philadelphia, go back to Daryl Morey and run some of these scenarios by him and see if any of these trades interest them. Where some collection of those picks is valued more by Philadelphia that just that 2028 pick.

The Sixers will continue to wait and remain patient. They should not trade Harden just for the sake of getting it over with. Embiid remains on board with the team’s plan to get the most value in return for Harden and that gives the Sixers the time they need to wait for the right value in return for The Beard.
