MVP A'ja Wilson is larger than life in Saweetie's music video before season tipoff

A'ja Wilson is larger than life, on the court and off, and rapper Saweetie is here to show it.

The WNBA's reigning MVP, who carried the Las Vegas Aces to the finals, is featured in Saweetie's official music video for "Fast (Motion)" that dropped early Friday. The release comes one week before the WNBA tips off its 25th anniversary season on May 14.

The Aces' star forward towers in the streets of New York while playing one-on-one against Saweetie, notably in the franchise's new jerseys. The two are supersized to stand half the size of the buildings with advertisements of Black-owned businesses in the background.

Wilson and Napheesa Collier spoke with the rapper/singer/songwriter on their podcast, "Tea with A & Phee," while in the wubble last season. The trio spoke of negative connotations heaped on Black women, and though Wilson and Collier tried to get the tea on Saweetie's album release, the rapper wouldn't give it.

The single samples Ciara's "Got Me Good," which is a favorite on TikTok, including for veterans and sisters Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks.

Wilson, 24, is having a headline offseason. In January, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, her alma mater South Carolina honored her with an 11-foot bronze statue of her on the campus in front of Colonial Life Arena. In a moving speech, she made note that her grandmother, who grew up in the area, wasn't allowed to walk on the South Carolina campus as a girl because she was Black.

Wilson also introduced a hit luxury candle line with scents named for her MVP, Rookie of the Year, All-Star and national championship accolades.

The Aces open the season on May 15 in a WNBA finals rematch against the Seattle Storm, which won the series in three games. It will air on ABC as one of the 100 nationally televised regular-season games across networks. Wilson's Aces are stacked and favorites to win the title this year.
