Wink Martindale resigning as Giants defensive coordinator
The coaching changes continue for the New York Giants.
Wink Martindale is resigning as Giants defensive coordinator, according to multiple insiders, to pursue head coach and defensive coordinator opportunities elsewhere.
While New York’s defense ranked 27th in the NFL, they were the team’s best unit. The Giants tied for a league-best 31 takeaways in 2023.
During his end-of-year press conference Monday morning, head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that he expected both Martindale and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka back with the team for the 2024 season. But it seems Martindale had a desire to explore other opportunities.
Martindale is expected to be in high demand this offseason — be it as a head coach candidate or defensive coordinator — and many expect him to find a new job sooner than later.
