Will Smith hits massive NLCS homer off Will Smith, becomes baseball's one true Will Smith
For four and a half games in the NLCS, the possibility lingered.
On the Los Angeles Dodgers’ side was starting catcher Will Smith. On the Atlanta Braves was left-handed reliever Will Smith. At some point, it felt like the two were bound to face off in a battle of identical names.
That matchup finally became a reality in the sixth inning of Game 5. And what a plate appearance it was.
Will Smith vs. Will Smith
With two men on and two outs and the Braves up 2-1, Smith the hitter came up to face Smith the pitcher. It was a pivotal moment as the Dodgers tried to come back from a 3-1 series deficit. It was also a historic moment, as it was the first time two players with the same name faced each other in MLB postseason action.
Smith eventually worked the count full, then did this:

A go-ahead, no-doubt, three-run home run. The biggest blow as Los Angeles won 7-3 to stay alive in the NLCS. A great moment for Will Smith, and also a pitch that Will Smith would certainly like back.
And yes, Twitter had a field day.
Will Smith wins that battle.
