Here’s why Terron Armstead is No. 3 on our Dolphins’ Top 20 players

(Part of a series counting down to the start of 2024 Dolphins training camp.)

Terron Armstead is the first to admit injuries have played a big role in his career.

Over his two seasons as a Dolphin, he has missed 11 of a possible 34 games. That’s 32 percent.

With no pun intended, Armstead recently said “durability has been my Achilles heal.”

But there's more to his story than time missed ...

Why Armstead is No. 3

Although fans often lament about Armstead’s injuries, it can’t be discounted that he has made the Pro Bowl both of his seasons in Miami.

Plus, he’s a team captain and an invaluable voice for young linemen such as Patrick Paul, the Dolphins’ second-round pick who in a perfect world will someday succeed Armstead at left tackle.

“Every tool that exists for him to be successful, and successful for a long time is what I’m going to give him and everybody else in that room,” Armstead said. “I’ve had a short time with Patrick so far. I’ve seen great things on the field, impressive for sure.”

Telling stat

Want to compare pedigree? Paul was taken with the 55th overall pick. That’s 20 picks earlier than Armstead was taken by New Orleans in 2013.

How we see Armstead’s future

Given that he took time to figure out whether he wanted to play this season, Armstead might be entering his final year in the NFL.

“No idea,” he said. “I enter every season with full, full commitment, locked in. I don’t try to look past that at all.”

He turns 33 on July 23.
