Why Porter Moser credits Oklahoma basketball fans for helping snap Bedlam skid

NORMAN — Porter Moser was frustrated on behalf of Sooner fans after OU was routed by Texas a few weeks ago. The normally sleepy Lloyd Noble Center was rocking, but the Sooners fell flat.

Saturday offered a second chance. Another home rivalry game where Sooner fans, drinking from red Solo cups, showed up.

The game was ugly, filled with whistles and clanks, but OU beat OSU 66-62. Sooner fans were at least awarded with a win this time, albeit after enduring a brutal game.

“I thought the crowd had tremendous energy,” Moser said. “They were in it the whole time. It’s what you envision, you look around and it was completely filled.”

Oklahoma won 66-62.

OSU coach Mike Boynton said it’s the best crowd he’s seen in Norman during his seven years coming there.

“The atmosphere kept our guys believing, kept our guys in there,” Moser said.

Interacting with students after the game, Moser said he felt like a Gumby doll as he was pushed and pulled in the celebration.

“They were emotional,” Moser said.

It won’t count as a good win for the Sooners, but OU (18-6, 6-5 Big 12) avoided what would have been a devastating loss to a last-place OSU squad.

Moser, who was 1-4 against the Cowboys before Saturday, netted a much-needed Bedlam win.
