Why MiLaysia Fulwiley NIL deal prompted Steph Curry to say: 'She's changing the women's game'

It didn’t take freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley long to have an impact on the court for the South Carolina women’s basketball team.

It didn’t take her long to have an impact off of it, either.

The Curry Brand, the company associated with Under Armour and NBA star Steph Curry, announced this week that Fulwiley has signed an NIL partnership to become the brand’s first official college athlete.

“When it comes to the ability to change the game for good, nobody can speak to that more than MiLaysia,” Curry said in an Under Armour news release. “She’s changing the women’s game on the fly with how she plays and moves on the court.

“Partnering with her and Curry Brand is such a special opportunity. I’m humbled that she is now a part of the family.”

Fulwiley will make her debut as a Curry Brand ambassador in the NCAA Tournament next week and will wear Curry Brand footwear throughout the remainder of her career at South Carolina.

The Gamecocks are expected to be the overall No. 1 seed when the NCAA Tournament field is announced on Sunday.

Fulwiley helped the Gamecocks to a 32-0 record and SEC regular season and tournament titles. She scored a career-high 24 points in South Carolina’s 79-72 victory against LSU in the SEC Tournament championship game on Sunday and was named the event’s Most Valuable Player.

A 5-foot-10 guard from Columbia, Fulwiley only started in three of 32 games for the Gamecocks, but averaged 11.8 points – the second-highest figure on the team. She scored in double figures in 21 games.

A former USA TODAY All-American, Fulwiley helped lead Keenan High School to four state championships and was a four-time South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year.
